THE BASICS
The first thing you need to know about being a Nerdfighter, is that if you want to be one, you already are.
Let’s start at the beginning: enter Hank and John Green. Two brothers living across the country, with an interest in increasing their communication with each other through the medium of YouTube video blogs.
The name of their project? Brotherhood 2.0. The brothers would alternate videos every other day, speaking mostly of their daily lives as well as any current events that they happened to notice or have any opinions on.
Their channel was named “Vlogbrothers", and it began to rise in popularity on YouTube after one of Hank’s videos was featured on the front page. The featured video, Accio Deathly Hallows (check it out on the Videos page), set the stage for the community to begin to grow.

People from all over the internet gathered to watch these brothers educate, create, and explain all matter of things.
The inclusive nature of the community brought a huge following, which as of October 2013 numbers about 1,560,082 (if we're being exact).
By encouraging people with varying interests and passions to be a part of the community and take on the label of "Nerdfighter", the idea of nerdiness on the internet shifted significantly.
The fact that such a simple idea as being passionate about anything could spark a change in engrained stereotypes concerning nerdiness is incredible, and the way Nerdfighteria uses its power continues to amaze. Reversing the stereotypes surrounding nerd culture has empowered a lot of people to do a whole lot of cool things.
This opportunity to be engaged in a community that takes part in real social change is at your fingertips, the only thing you have to do is take advantage of it.
